Michel takes a gamble and makes use of a $15,000 inheritance to produce and direct his first "real" film — Pierre Guimond Betwixt Freud and Dracula (awarded in Melbourne, Paris and New York). That same year, he starts his own production company — Nuit Blanche Inc. — and becomes the proud Papa of a beautiful daughter.

Michel launches the Gérard D. Laflaque series, comprised of the shortest programs in the history of Quebec TV — 60 seconds daily! It's quickly recognized as the TV event of the 80s on Radio-Québec.

To mark his 40th birthday, Michel heads off to the Big Apple to enrol in an acting program under the tutelage of Lenore De Koven.
